USA（PTARE）进口节流阀是指通过改变通道面积达到控制或调节介质流量与压力的阀门，在管路中主要作节流使用。最常见的进口节流阀是采用截止阀改变阀瓣形状后作节流用。但用改变截止阀或闸阀开启高度来作节流用是极不合适的，因为介质在节流状态下流速很高，必然会使密封面冲蚀磨损，失去切断密封作用。同样用进口节流阀作切断装置也是不合适的，因此截止阀的流动阻力较高于其它阀门。
