The main function of a cracking furnace tube is to provide a reaction environment for the thermal cracking of hydrocarbons. Under such extreme heat conditions and in the presence of steam (which helps with heat transfer and moderates coking), the large hydrocarbon molecules break down into smaller, more valuable unsaturated hydrocarbons like ethylene, propylene, and butadiene, which are key building blocks for the production of plastics, synthetic rubbers, and many other chemical products.
